Volumetric Flyash Testing

WHY TESTING IS IMPORTANT

Regularly monitoring flyash L.O.I. can pay huge dividends by identifying combustion inefficiencies early so that measures can be taken to resolve airflow or pulverizer related problems. Additionally, many coal fired plants are selling flyash for revenue in lieu of paying to transport and landfill the ash. Ash quality represents a considerable profit or loss of revenue for these plants.

Economizer ash hopper samples are regularly collected by plants due to the ease of sample collection. Our experience is that the hopper samples may or may not be representative; depending upon many factors including frequency of pulled ash, particle size, duct configuration and flue gas velocities. The “in-situ” volumetric flyash sample collection ensures that the flyash sample is representative of actual ash in the flue gas stream and that the L.O.I. is indicative of actual combustion efficiency.
